Math and Arts Integration!

Because Mr. Daugherty is new to our building this year, he does not remember the excitement when the art department took on the project of painting ceiling tiles in our hallways last year.  Recently he approached me with the idea that his sixth grade math class could paint ceiling tiles for his classroom that could support math learning and integrate measurement and art.  Students first created their design on a small scale that they are now recreating on a larger scale proportionate to their original design.  Using a grid they are working on ceiling tiles in pairs and creating math terms using design elements that will enable students to better understand those terms.  I have been assisting with this project and hope to add more pictures to the blog in the weeks to follow...

Paper as a sculptural art form!

Students in my exploratory arts class have been trying various three dimensional art forms.  Recently we went green and looked at how the paper scraps around the art room could become sculptural if manipulated correctly.
